Decorating With Blue Wallpaper

When decorating a room, it is always best to consider not only the furnishings but more important the overall feel that you want to achieve. Colors can help define the mood of the environment, and because they have effects on health and way of thinking, you want shades that encourage and stimulate the senses. Painting the walls is a relatively easy and quick way to add color to a room, but why not go for something a little bit more exciting and give wallpaper a try.

Wallpapers have made a huge comeback in the past few years, and there is more variety than ever to choose from. You can find patterns and styles that are perfect for every room in the house, and while there is a myriad of colors to choose from, blue is a constant favorite that never goes out of style.

The hallway leads you into the different rooms of the house and you want it to be inviting and pleasant. A dramatic blue wallpaper (with a damask pattern for example) can be fabulous here. Bold shades of blue are striking and add a contemporary feel when combined with classic furnishings and accessories. If you want a fusion of traditional and modern, try a classic mirror on the wall and a contemporary blue striped rug in the entryway balance the mood. If you do not want the entire room covered with printed wallpaper, choose one accent wall and only wallpaper that.

Dining rooms get a distinguished look with royal blue stripes wallpaper (works really well with white paneling and moldings), and to help bring the look together, coordinate the fabrics of dining room chairs. For a classic feel, use vintage blue and white china wall decor.

The bedroom is your own private breathing space and shades of blue gives it a calming and relaxing effect. For a bold yet soft and soothing space, do not be afraid to mix a variety of patterns, but remember to stick to the same shades with varied tones. Printed blue and white wall covering blends wonderfully with toile quilted bedding, hooked rugs and striped cushions.

For something a little out of the ordinary, consider wallpapering the ceiling. Light or pale blue shades of wallpaper gives the room a cool and comforting feeling while it makes a low ceiling appear higher, and the space look larger.

Wallpapers are so much fun and can completely change the atmosphere of a room. Don’t be afraid to play with it, put up bold color combinations and patterns, and use it in new and unexpected ways - you’ll be happy you did when your guests are oohing and aahing over your totally unique space.
