How to Clean A Clogged Shower Drain

by admin on October 18, 2012 · 0 comments

You've worked on growing your hair out since high school and you consider it one of the prettiest and best things about your look. You just redid your bathroom so that it is gorgeous and you spend extra time on the lighting so that it can reflect your natural beauty and the natural beauty of your newly remodeled space. It is a dream come true and you love everything about your new space.

The Problem

However, regardless of how much you love the space, after only a few months you're kind of embarrassed to admit it, but you've clogged the drain again with that long beautiful hair of yours. Unfortunately, the drain is just as bad as it was before you started the remodeling project. You love your long hair, but you've grown tired of dealing with the backed up water sitting in your tub while you're trying to get ready in the morning.

Your Solution

You've tried everything from homemade drain cleaners you were sure were the miracle solution, to store bought "all powerful" drain de-clogging agents, but nothing is working. You've even gotten down on your hands and knees and used the plunger to try to suck the gross out of the drain. No matter what you do, you can't seem to get the water to drain.

Unfortunately, I don't really have a "magical" solution that will always work for you, but there are some suggestions that may help to clean out your drain. You can find remedies online in all sorts of places and suggestions for homemade solutions including mixes ofvinegar, baking soda and vinegar, or bleach, all flushed with hot water every other week to keep the drain free of clogs and back-ups.

You should also consider getting a snake for the drain or using a plunger and drain de-clogging agent on the market and you'll be surprised how much you can take care of on your own. However, there are also people who can help you, if these home-brewed methods aren't working.

Solving the problem with a plumber is a temporary solution and you know it. However, you aren't sure how to actually stop the problem from happening again. Fortunately, there is a product that can keep most of the pesky hairs out of the drain while still allowing your water to drain just fine. It is called a hair catcher. It is a little plastic piece you can set over the top of your drain that will catch all of the long hairs that fall out during a shower or bath.

When you get out of the shower you can simply clean of the hair catcher and it is ready for the next time. This can end up saving you a lot of time and money as long as you remember to use it daily. You can also run boiling water through the drain each week, this helps remove additional excess shampoo, shaving hairs and longer hairs that have escaped through the hair stopper.
