More and more, a house is more than just a place to call home. It is also a setting for entertainment and socializing, and the outdoor areas are just as important as indoors. Some homeowners have become quite creative when it comes to patio designs. One of the best patio ideas to come along is the fire pit. It provides warmth, beauty, and a focal point for a furniture grouping.

There are several types of fire pits available. They can be made from a variety of materials and in many different styles.  By shopping around you should be able to find just the fire pit you had in mind.

Some buyers are interested in installing a permanent fire pit. This type is set into the ground or into a fire proof base. Once you have fixed it in place, you will not be able to move it from place to place so be sure you pick a location that fits well into your landscaping plan.

One of the most common types of fire pits is the chimenea. This is a portable design with a round body that extends into a chimney on top. They are usually crafted of ceramic and come in hundreds of sizes and colors. Some are even decorated with elaborate designs. It is usually supported by three metal legs.

Another option is a movable open fire pit made of metal and shaped like a large bowl. Some of these are outfitted with rotisserie bars and grills so they can be used for cooking, much like a camp fire. They look gorgeous in your back yard but are portable enough to take with you, for instance, to the beach. When developing your patio ideas, consider incorporating a fire pit to add another dimension of warmth, beauty, and interest.
