Organization in your Home Office

Part of your office design includes a plan on how you will organize your office. Where will you place your desk, chair, filing cabinets, shelving, and other necessary office items? The best way to decide on this is to draw it out on a piece of paper, or imagine it in your mind before you start putting things in places. Some things are a given, if you have just one wall that includes an outlet, you know that your electronics; like your computer, printer, fax machine and phone will need to go there. Make sure that your office has a phone jack already installed or you may need to hire someone to do this for you prior to filling your office with a desk, chair and chair mat.

The décor in your office should be on the same overall topic. This topic could be you. Things that you enjoy doing, colors you enjoy, and photographs of your family are great ways to decorate your office giving it a professional but also friendly and open feeling.

Whatever shelving you decide on for your office should always be a little more space than you actually need at the moment you purchase it. There is always another book out there and you don’t want to run out of space and have to redesign your whole office because a few books won’t fit on the shelf. When you have extra space on your shelving, you can fill in that space with a decorative book end, a small photo in a frame, or even a clock.

Having a bulletin board hanging on your wall will help to increase productivity. You can map out your ideas, stick things to it so you don’t lose them, and keep reminders for yourself. Another good idea is to have a large, white board calendar that you can use dry erase markers on. This way you can change your plans easily, be able to view your schedule and appointments with ease and it will also save paper!

When your office is not cluttered, and is decorated to your liking with your personality touching every aspect of the room, you will feel less stressed about working. You will enjoy being in your office because it is designed just for you and it will make you feel more at home. There are so many possibilities when designing and decorating your very own office space, the key is to have fun and create a space you will not get tired of.
